Preparing for Backyard/BBQ Season

What’s better than spending time in the backyard with family and friends on a hot summer’s day? Watching the kids run around, playing with the dog… Inviting the neighbours over for a leisurely beer… Hosting a family BBQ on a beautiful Sunday afternoon… Or having your closest friends over for a fancy cocktail party, complete with hors d’oeuvres and your best homemade sangria...

Summer is the time when everything seems to come alive with more colour, more laughter, and more fun. And there’s no better place to take advantage of the fruits of summer than in your own backyard. But first things first – you’ve got to get your backyard ready. Here are our top tips on how to get prepared for backyard and BBQ season:

Spruce up your lawn

Give your lawn some love by first raking it to remove any debris. Then give it a good mowing and a deep watering to get it ready for backyard and BBQ season. Check for weeds and do some weeding if necessary, and prune any trees or shrubs that need maintenance. You might also like to work on your gardening. A well-maintained lawn is the perfect foundation for a summer of backyard fun.

Get the grill ready

Your BBQ has probably been hibernating all winter, so it’ll need a bit of maintenance to get in tip-top shape. Give your grill a deep cleaning with a brush, hot water, some dish soap, and a venturi brush. Inspect all of the hoses and tubes to make sure everything is in working order. It’s also a good idea to conduct a leak test on any gas BBQs, and to check that all the ignition parks are working properly.

Clean up your patio furniture

If your patio furniture or pillows are still hiding in the garage, it’s time to bring them out and get them ready for summertime. Wipe down your outdoor table and chairs, and arrange them however you like. Give the pillows a clean if they need it, and you’re good to go!

Add some fun – accessorize!

Think of fun new ways to add some pizzazz to your backyard. Some great options are tiki lanterns, strings of lights, coloured umbrellas, small potted plants, and outdoor speakers. These will make hanging out in the backyard that much more enjoyable.
